Kaftan: Inspired by Sunshine!

I designed this inspired by the sun and wanted to post it today, because I wish I had more sunshine in my life. It is so cold here, which I really dislike. It has put me somewhat in a slump. I must have SAD also known as Seasonal Affective Disorder. Do any of you feel like this? If you do, how do you shake it and if you don't - how do you avoid it?

It's beautiful. I'm loving the color! I guess I must have SAD too, Im always depressed during winter! I don't know how to cope with it, I long for summertime! In the meantime, I try to engage in all sorts of activities that keep me busy! I'm less depressed when I'm busy :)

Hijabee,
It's so cold here that everyone is sick, so it's hard to get out. I feel that I have to stay beside my sick family and so going outside is not very possible. But, even if I could, I don't know that I have any enthusiasm. How do you get yourself out when you are down? Do you have a dua'a you say to yourself?
Malek,
Girllll, it's freezing here. My inner-eardrums are frozen. It's so cold I dread taking a shower and washing my hair - aaaaahhhhh!!! I want to try to follow your advice and get more light though. Thanks for the tip, I'm going to jump on it.
Thanks for loving my kaftan!

Francesca,
I totally feel you! I don't wanna get out either when it's cold, so I try to have fun indoors, invite friends over, watch movies with your girls, or whatever else that you like doing. I think the secret is to not stay ALONE, coz that's really when you feel down. As long as you have someone with you that you can hang with, it should get better. Hope you get over the SAD thingy really soon habibti.

As-Salaamu-Alaikum Hijabee,
Thanks for the tips, that's very sweet of you to take the time to give me advice. I actually went to what we call "hamam" here. It's like what you call a "Turkish bath" and I warmed up. Ahhhh... I needed that. I can't wait to see your pix!

Salaamu alaikum,
Beautiful site. You're dealing with it well by redirecting it to your fashion. Uhm, many tell me I'm crazy to love the frigid cold temperatures and all. I dunno, but I guess it is growing up in the northern part of country (u.s.) that has made me tolerant of these conditions. The plus side to it for us hijabis is that we do not necessarily have to change wardrobes. The transition only takes a few extra layers (turtlenecks, leggings, pants) underneath whatever outerwear we have on. Great isn't it? All love, I'm checking out your line...

Malek, AHHH... the hamam is one of the greatest places on earth - alhamdulilah! Come on back girl, lets hang-out!
Piedad,
What a beautiful name! I just love it - it reminds of the Surah Ar Rahman - my favorite. Welcome to Hijabi Couture, it's so nice to meet you. I hope some of your adaptability rubs off on me. Mash'Allah, what a blessing from Allah to have that characteristic.

Salaams Najea!! I have been saying for weeks now that I must be suffering from SAD. I've had a really hard time adjusting to these northeastern winters. Connecticut has been freezing since October, IMHO. I dream of the sun and desert. I dream of New Mexico. I don't really have much advice to offer as to how to combat it. Love the Blog! You've inspired me to start my own. Keep up the good work sister! Masalaama.
